PICKUP TRUCK KIT : It is possible to have a portable toilet only if the kit is in solo mode.

There are plenty of solutions! This article covers them

The Roadloft mattress is so comfortable that many users actually prefer it over their home mattress!

Our kits are designed with space optimization and ergonomics in mind. That’s why we carefully considered the ideal thickness for our mattress. It measures 3.5 inches thick (2.5 inches of high-density polyurethane foam (HR 30 kg/m³) topped with 1 inch of memory foam) and was developed in collaboration with a kinesiologist to ensure maximum comfort on the road.

You can try it out at our workshop by appointment only.

It’s absolutely possible to stay cool and comfortable in your vehicle, even on warm summer nights.

Some of our customers use a small USB fan to improve airflow inside the vehicle. If you go with this option, choose a low-power model that can be plugged into an auxiliary battery to avoid draining your car’s main battery.

With the right mosquito screens, you can keep the windows open without worry. Most of the time, just opening the rear windows provides enough ventilation. On particularly hot nights, opening all the windows ensures optimal comfort. You’ll find more DIY tips and solutions in our blog article.

Pickup setup: Installing a fan on the ceiling of the pickup bed is an effective solution, as it pushes hot air out from the top. By opening the built-in windows, you create a natural airflow that keeps the space cool. We use the Maxx Air 00-03810B fan, which is very energy efficient.

Thermal insulation

Insulated curtains block out sunlight, reducing heat buildup and helping maintain a more pleasant temperature in the evening.

practical questions

At Roadloft, our customer’s safety is our number one priority. Each one of our kits includes an attachment system that binds the kit to the vehicle. This was tested and approved to guarantee your safety on the road.

  • The kits are attached to the vehicle and can’t move or budge when you are moving or even if there is an impact.
  • The drawers are secured with locks that prevent them to open when you are moving.
  • The kits are designed and attached in the vehicle in a way that every door of your car is still accessible and functional, from the outside and the inside.

An electric cooler consumes much more energy than a refrigerator and usually offers only a 20°C temperature difference from the outside. So, on hot summer days, you often need to add ice to keep things cold. In contrast, with a refrigerator, you can set the exact temperature you want.

An electric cooler runs continuously, which quickly drains your battery. A refrigerator, however, is much better insulated and has a compressor, so it only runs for a few minutes per hour. For example, if it’s set to 5°C, it will only turn on when the internal temperature rises, and it will stop as soon as it reaches the set temperature again.

So, on a 25°C day, the refrigerator might run for as little as 15 minutes per hour, while the cooler would run non-stop the entire hour.

The Roadloft conversion kit allows for a non-permanent transformation of your vehicle into a camper, which means you can save on both insurance and registration. You won’t need to pay for recreational vehicle insurance, resulting in significant savings!

MINIVAN KIT:
You can travel with up to 4 people using the Minivan kit, but only if your vehicle has the Stow and Go option. Simply move the kit’s bench module to the back of the vehicle and put the second-row seats back in place to access the passenger seats.

Note: At night, the Roadloft conversion bed is large enough for two adults and a small child. It is not possible to sleep 4 people inside the Minivan kit, so a tent or annex tent is needed if required.

SUV KIT:
You can travel with up to 4 people using the SUV kit. Move the kit’s bed panels to the rear of the vehicle and put the rear passenger seats back in place to free up two seats.

Note: It is not possible to sleep 4 people inside the SUV kit. A tent will be needed to accommodate two people.

PICKUP KIT:
You can travel with up to 4 people using the Pickup kit, as the setup is installed in the truck bed, leaving all passenger seats available.

Note: The double bed mode of the Pickup kit is large enough to sleep 2 adults and 1 small child. It is not possible to sleep 4 people inside the Pickup kit, so a tent or rooftop tent should be used if needed.

MINIVAN QUESTIONS

Choosing the right minivan model for your conversion kit depends on your needs. We’ve designed a conversion kit specifically for each minivan model because the dimensions, height differences, and curves vary from one vehicle to another. Unlike our SUV and Pickup kits, Minivan kits are not universal.

We chose to create these custom-fit kits to prioritize comfort and ergonomics. This means that the storage space volume can vary slightly between models. You can see these differences on each product page in our online shop or in our compatibility guide.

Our recommendations:

  • We recommend minivans that offer the Stow and Go feature. This allows the second-row seats to fold flat into the floor, which is ideal for traveling with four people.
Only the Dodge Grand Caravan and non-hybrid Chrysler Pacifica offer this feature, and we find it very practical.
  • We also love the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid for its impressive fuel efficiency.

For more of our recommendations, check out our article on the best minivan models for vanlife (link coming soon).

Second-row seats:
If your minivan has the Stow and Go option: simply fold the seats into the floor when using the kit — no need to remove them.
If your seats are not foldable: they need to be removed to install the kit.

Good news! Our kit is designed to make the second row accessible by shifting the bench and table section of the kit toward the back. This means you can quickly reinstall the second-row seats for passenger use — no need to disassemble the entire kit. Watch our video to see how it works.

Third-row seats:
Most vehicles require the removal of the third-row seats to use the Roadloft kit.

Exceptions:

  • Dodge Grand Caravan
  • Chrysler Pacifica (hybrid and non-hybrid)
In these cases, the seats can remain in the vehicle but must be folded into the floor.

Recommendation:
We still recommend removing the third-row seats to increase your storage space for food, water, and your fridge.

Minivans equipped with Stow and Go in the second row are the most convenient for traveling with 4 people.

Compatible models:

  • Dodge Grand Caravan
  • Chrysler Pacifica (non-hybrid)

These models let you fold the second-row seats into the floor and install the kit without needing to remove the seats.

For other models:
Thanks to our modular kit design, you can free up space in the second row by shifting the bench and table section to the rear of the vehicle. This allows you to quickly reinstall the seats when needed. Most seats use a clip system, making them easy to remove and reinstall.

Yes! We invite you to read our article: How to adapt your Roadloft to travel independently.

Our kits are precisely designed to fit the exact dimensions and shapes of each vehicle model to optimize space. While some customers have successfully transferred their kit to a different model, we cannot guarantee perfect compatibility.
