For charging on the road:

BLUETTI Charger 1 – $299

  • Complements your power station for efficient charging on the go. Connects to your vehicle’s battery

To choose the right battery, consider:

1. Available space in your vehicle

Make sure the battery you choose can fit in the area where you plan to install it (under the bed, behind the seats, in a storage box, etc.).
Each Bluetti model has different dimensions, so check them before finalizing your choice.

2. Required capacity (Watt-hours)

The W/h capacity determines how long your battery can power your devices without recharging.

Most common devices used in vanlife:

Typical consumption for the devices travelers use the most:

  • 12V refrigerator: ≈ 20–80 W/h depending on model and outside temperature
    (C15, C30, C40 ≈ 45 W | R85 ≈ 80 W)
  • Laptop: ≈ 30 W/h
  • Cell phone: ≈ 10 W/h
  • Camera: ≈ 10 W/h
  • MaxxFan: ≈ 20–55 W/h

Scenario: 2 travelers in a Roadloft RAM ProMaster

Usage over 24 hours:

  • Refrigerator R85: 24 h × 40 W = 960 W/h
  • 2 cell phones: 20 W/h
  • 1 laptop: 30 W/h
  • MaxxFan: 12 h × 30 W/h = 360 W/h

Total daily consumption: 1,370 W/h

A battery with at least 1,370 W/h capacity is needed to get through 24 hours without recharging.

3. Maximum power (Watt output)

Check the most demanding device you want to operate.

Examples:

  • Microwave 1000 W → The battery must provide at least 1000 W output
  • Kettle 800 W → Battery must supply 800 W continuously

4. Charging Speed

Bluetti stations are among the fastest on the market, often allowing a full recharge in 1 to 2 hours, depending on the model.

5. Charging methods

Bluetti stations support:

  • 110V AC – wall outlet (up to 3840 W/h)
  • 12V DC – your vehicle’s car socket (120 W/h)
  • Solar charging – compatible solar panels (depends on panel wattage)
  • Charging via vehicle alternator – connected to the vehicle battery using Charger 1 (560 W/h)
(Exclusive to Apex 300) Charging at electric vehicle (EV) charging stations (3840 W/h)
